La Residence Phou Vao Orient-Express Hotels Trains & Cruises

Here some pictures of the hotel in which I am currently Executive Chef.

The Residence Phou Vao is integrated in the Orient Express Hotels, Trains and Cruises Group since 2006. The hotel, with its 32 rooms and its 2 suites, which are designed in a traditional style, is nestled in the middle of a luxuriant garden of three hectares and offers a magnificent view on the surroundings hills. And especially on the Mount Phousy, the sacred mountain of Luang Prabang and on the temple Vat Chamsi located at its top, which is beautifully enlightened during the night. The spa of La Residence Phou Vao proposes a wide range of Laotian traditional massages ministered in a relaxing and serene ambience। Moreover, the hotel has a restaurant which proposes a gastronomic French cuisine and which also invites you to discover the typical and tasty dishes from the Laotian cuisine. For groups, the hotel proposes also a catering service for up to 200 guests and which can take place in different exceptional places। The Cocktail Bar, located close to the swimming pool, is the ideal place to take an aperitif or a refreshment in the afternoon while enjoying the soothing atmosphere and the splendid setting.

Supporting the orphans of Luang Prabang

La Résidence Phou Vao, Luang Prabang, Laos, is committed to help the 460 children of the local orphanage. The circumstances in which the children live could certainly be improved, and that is why staff and management at the hotel are engaging in different activities that can sensitively increase the quality of life of these children. There are 460 kids at the Luang Prabang Orphanage and unfortunately not enough food for everybody. On Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, management, staff and even guests at La Résidence Phou Vao prepared and distributed a special festive meal. Over 950 meals in total were served at the orphanage by the hotel’s guests. Donations also took place on that occasion: 1500 books, 1000 pencils and soccer balls were distributed over Christmas and New Year’s Day. La Résidence Phou Vao intends to continue supporting the orphanage and to find new ways to improve the quality of life of those 460 kids by supplying: - Blankets, as nights can get terribly cold in Luang Prabang and half of the orphanage beds are devoid of them - Books and pencils on a regular basis, as the kids attend school on site but many study collateral materials are unavailable Staff and management at the hotel noticed that the kids never leave the compound of the orphanage. La Résidence Phou Vao is therefore determined to organise monthly activities and excursions such as games, workshops, sport tournaments or trips to the nearby waterfalls. These activities will be run by volunteers among the hotel’s staff and management. La Résidence Phou Vao’ s support to the orphanage is funded by the individual donations of the guests, private donations from staff and management and sales of the hotel’s old linen, bathrobes and other equipment.
